The race leads off the NC Watermelon Festival parade and winds through parts of historic Murfreesboro and Chowan University. Proceeds from the race benefit the Elizabeth Sewell Parker Public Library. This event is organized by the Murfreesboro Rotary Club.
Awards will be given to overall mens' and womens' champion, plus the top three finishers in each age division (19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over). Each runner also receives an official Murfreesboro watermelon. Shirts are guaranteed to the first 100 participants to register. The course is generally flat and is certified by the USTAF (#NC-06020-PH). Race-day registration begins at 8:45 AM and closes at 9:45 AM. The course closes at 11 AM (or one hour after the start).
