Kennebec Challenge is a fun and challenging Mountain Run in the LaPlata Mountains. The scenery is specatacular! Gorgeous wildflowers and views. It starts on a gravel road, goes up Columbus Basin, onto a single track to Kennebec Pass. The run proceeds down a 4WD road, back onto the gravel road. The race is about 14 miles. Authorized under Special Event Permit #COL667 by the Columbine Ranger District, San Juan National Forest.
Prizes will be given to the overall male and female winners, as well as to the age group winners: 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 & over. There will be three water stops on the run. Participants are required to have a Colorado Search and Rescue card, a hunting or a fishing license. If you have one, please bring a copy. If not, they will be available for purchase at the start. We will have EMT support provided by LaPlata County Search and Rescue. Rainshowers are possible in the late morning or early afternoon.

In Memory
The Kennebec Mountain Challenge is being held in memory of Alex Tejada. Even though he was not a runner, Alex was a sponsor and volunteer for the past 7 years at the Kennebec Challenge. Beth Crane, his spouse, was the former Race Director and Alex helped with whatever was needed. He will be missed.
Directions
11 miles west of Durango on Hwy 160, turn North on LaPlata Canyon Road (road 124), 8 miles to the start at LaPlata City Campground. (3 miles of the road is dirt and somewhat rugged). Parking is limited; car-pooling is encouraged!
Race requirement:
LaPlata County is requiring that all race participants have a Colorado Search and Rescue Card, a hunting license or a fishing license to help defray the cost if a search and rescue is necessary. If you have one, PLEASE bring a copy with you to the start! If you do not, we will have Colorado Search and Rescue Cards at the start for all participants.
