5th Annual Birthday Bash & Dash 5K & 1.5 Mile

The Birthday Bash and Dash is the biggest fundraiser for Smiles For Sophie Forever, a foundation created in memory of four-year-old Sophie Quayle, who lost her battle with brain cancer, after a valiant fight, on October 6, 2007.

Last year over 1,200 walkers, runners, and children participated in the 4th Annual Birthday Bash & Dash held on July 4, 2011, which would have been Sophie's eighth birthday. This year, we again invite you to begin celebrating your freedom on the Fourth of July with us and help us realize the possibility of one day celebrating every child's freedom from pediatric brain cancer.

Like the last four years, the Birthday Bash and Dash is a great way to kick off your 4th of July holiday. The celebration of our nation and the birthday of Sophie Quayle, whose memory the event honors, will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the 5K and 1.5 mile run/walk. The course will travel the same roads Sophie traveled in her short life, and will again pass by her home on Leeward Court. Typical and traditional birthday party fun, after the run/walk will feature activities for the children. Face-painting, candy scrambles, bounce houses, a 50-yd dash and more will provide entertainment for the little ones. A wrist-band donation for each non-race registered child will guarantee participation in all the special activities. Food and refreshments will also be available for purchase. No birthday celebration would be complete without cupcakes, which will bring an end to the party. By noon, all participants will be ready to continue their holiday at home with family and friends. In the past four years SFSF has provided more than $270,000 of financial assistance to families and St. Jude, and made contributions earmarked for research.

Proceeds will once again support SFSF, a tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to:
- Raising awareness of pediatric brain cancer
- Funding research for its cure
- Supporting St. Jude, where Sophie was treated
- Helping families affected by pediatric brain cancer

Runner in Spirit

Can't make it on the 4th? Register as a "Runner in Spirit." Run if, when, or wherever suits your fancy. Register on or before June 17 and get a race t-shirt to wear for your "spirit run." T-shirts for later registrations (after June 17) cannot be guaranteed. In addition, if you register as a runner in spirit, you will not have a bib number or chip, so you may not run or walk on the course on race day.
